Nike Air Yezzy 2 Release Preview

The speculation has been building for months.  We have heard several release dates given regarding the Nike Air Yezzy 2, along with different price points.  The question is this…what makes the Nike Air Yezzy so popular? What is it about this shoe that makes everyone want to get their hands on it? What is the hype around and behind Kanye’s latest edition to the Nike Sportswear line?

The Yezzy 2 will be a shoe that will give off a certain level of status regarding sneakerheads.  It means that you put in the time and effort, to have one of the rare designs part of your shoe collection.  However, are the design details that intricate to make people care that much, or is this just a typical case of low budget resellers trying to make a buck?  Lets start with the overall look of the shoe.  What you may or may not have noticed, the Yezzy 2

looks to use a heavily inspired “Year of the Dragon” theme which can be seen on the side panel and counter heel of the shoe.  Leather is used to give the effect of dragon scales on the sides, and the counter heel resembles the look of a dragon’s tail.  When we take a look of the front of the shoe we can see a heavy usage of mesh covering the front, along with brush leather along the toe tip.  Following the blueprint of the Yezzy 1 this year’s model will use the thin rubber strap which is supposed to be used for support, but of course for a sneakerhead it will be used for style.  But is that enough to make it one of the most sought after shoes this year?  Maybe, but lets look into some more of the design details that makes it so popular.

Next, This year’s Yezzy release looks to use some Egyptian themes which has been seen on the Zen model of this year’s release.  Normally this arrangement of character can be animals, or items such as cups, tools, etc.  Up to this point there has not been any clarification of the meaning of the Egyptian characters, but if you are familiar at all with Egyptian writing or lore, you will know that the characters normally are arranged in a certain way to spell out a persons name.  When you see this done it can normally be vertical, or horizontal, and in the case of the Yezzy 2 it has been seen as horizontal.  These charms or medallions that in Egyptian culture is called a “Cartouche.”

Lastly, one of the new things that has become very popular in the recent years is the glow in the dark effect which has been seen recently with several Nike Sportswear items like the All Star Pack, which just released this past February, and the Nike Rookie LWP which used a total glow in the dark upper.  Very popular releases which made sneakerheads rush to their local store to add to their collection, and looks to grow in popularity every time their is a shoe that uses it.  Of course what everyone will like to know is, “How effective will the glow in the dark be with the Yezzy 2?”

With all the different details that has been added to the Yezzy 2, do you really think that you will pick up the shoe for you collection or for resale? Is it more about the status of having the shoe, or is it more about making a dollar? Granted it will not be easy to get your hands on such a sought after collectors item especially people camping out, twitter registrations, and raffles that will be conducted.  And with the price point rumored to be around $250, will it be in you price range to pick up multiple pairs if you had the chance to do so?
